Deep or not so deep thoughts
Been doing a lot of thinking about things. Work is finally settling down but received some constructive criticism on my teaching. ( Read more ) Current Mood: contemplativeCurrent Music: Knights of Cydonia | | Tuesday, April 1st, 2008 | | 8:34 pm |
My Personality
Pretty accurate too. I finally have internet access My Personality | | Neuroticism | | Extraversion | | Openness to Experience | | Agreeableness | | Conscientiousness | |
| Mostly your emotions are on an even keel and you do not get depressed easily, however you are sensitive about what others think of you. Your concern about rejection and ridicule cause you to feel shy and uncomfortable around others. You are easily embarrassed and often feel ashamed. Your fears that others will criticize or make fun of you are exaggerated and unrealistic, but your awkwardness and discomfort may make these fears a self-fulfilling prophecy. You generally make friends easily enough although you mostly don't go out of your way to demonstrate positive feelings toward others. Generally you are not considered to be an emotional person, however you are aware of and in touch with your emotions. You are mostly a compassionate person, however you prefer to make objective judgments when possible, however you believe that a certain amount of deception in social relationships is necessary. You are guarded in new relationships and less willing to openly reveal the whole truth about yourself. You are not an overly cautious person. You will think about alternatives and consequences but make up your mind fairly quickly.

Wow
It's been so long, with no internet access. That will change soon though as I am being moved back to Port Pirie. This year has been very full on. Mid year they put me in charge of the library - so no more teaching. It's a joint community library so has public access as well. Very interesting combination of issues here - the Public's right to information versus the government policy of not letting school students access all the information. End of the week
But a good day today. Fridays are good, I planned all feel good easy lessons so we all end the week on the bright side. I met my new landlords today as I have decided to go ahead and take the log cabin. It's beautiful and in ten acres with this wonderful view of the Flinders Ranges. The plan for now is to move in in four or five weeks as the owners need to fix a few things. I met some other teachers afterwards and had dinner with them. Left them about 9.30 to drive home. It was hot! The wind on the car was like an oven. I am tired and sleepy. Also happy as I got a lot of things done this week and I can get some serious planning done this weekend for the rest of the term now It's only 10.12 but I'm heading to bed now. Woot!
I finished all the diagnostic testing and filed them and got the maths home work at the different levels sorted for the next six weeks plus my maths lessons organised till the end of next week at different levels. (Okay three but it's done now) I did discover an hour ago one part of one of the tests needs another record so tomorrow I can do that easily in my free lesson. It's not due until the end of tomorrow so woot! And I am getting through it seems to the children with other needs which means they are getting the work done as well, to their level. I looked at a new place today, it's a big fixer upper, a two bedroom log cabin on ten acres. I really really like it, it's about five klicks out of Quorn and has a fantasic view of the Flinders Ranges. The fact that today was 38 degrees yet it didn't seem as hot there was good too, but I forgot to see if there was a tv antenna. I would miss House, it makes me laugh. I'm going to see the owners tomorrow who want to repair things before they rent it out, but I do like it. Well it's ten past eleven and I have to be up early tomorrow. Long Time Between posting again
This time of year it's all about the moving to a new posting. I am at a very good school now and I have a class of 20 ten year olds to teach. Really good kids, too. The other teachers are supportive as well and the leadership is great! So I've basically only just settled in, after setting a routine with the children and doing lots of diagnostic tests. Now I can start the real teaching as I know what each one needs most or how they will learn better. I'm really looking forward to learning with them this year. Since moving I haven't been exercising as much, we've had a heat wave and I travel in a car with no A/C for forty minutes to work. I'm working till five usually and get home about six and leave for work at a quarter to eight. I'm tired, but feel good. Just wish the new neighbours weren't so noisy. The new place is half the size and I pay more rent so not happy with that but hopefully I will move soon, closer to the school. Will tell more later, hopefully tomorrow. Howdy
So things are very busy at work. I've been teaching and assessing a class of year elevens in web page design. They have a basic introductory knowledge now, plus some good links to go further if they wish. Except of course for the guys in the class who showed me some new things with this computer game they are creating. I've been concentrating on family alot too. Both Mum and the Stepdad are in their 70s and both have been in intensive care in the last three years. So time with them is precious. Not a nice thought but I need to do this. Mum's on the list to have a hip replacement. she has a tendency to stop breathing on the operating table. So I am hoping she will listen and bloody well quit smoking. She has to go the Repat hospital tomorrow for a health assessment. I hope she gets the nicotine patch as she can't chew the gum cause she has false teeth and the lozenges are really really expensive. If they won't I've said I'll help her with the cost. Gonna go pray for her Take care Current Mood: accomplishedCurrent Music: What's Love Got To Do With It | | Sunday, August 13th, 2006 | | 5:22 pm |
Whoa
It has been so long since I have had the chance to update. I've been busy, tired, working, but also enjoying myself. This second teaching assignment is so much fun! I have spent some time in working on a school web page, which is passing through the school ICT commitee. I don't claim to be the best web designer but at least it will be better than the Under Construction which has been on there for the last three years. Happy Australia Day!!!!
Today is the day here in Australia we celebrate who we are. Apparrently we have approximately 90 thousand people choosing to take Aussie citizenship today. I think that's wonderful, that one comes to a new country and takes it as their own after a few years like that. My stepfather chose to do that a few years ago, he pledged to Australia, he was given a tree (a native, symbolic of new life, growth, and future) and we had a supper to celebrate. Born in England this means he actually has dual citizenship. I'm not being sarcastic when I say I have tears of patriotic happiness at all this. Of course, the fact that the cricket started a few minutes ago (against Sri Lanka today) and the Anthem was sung, and to see the crowd sing it enthusiastically as well as the cricketers, well, that's good too. Travelling and my geekiness
I had a wonderful time in Melbourne - it was the perfect holiday. I highly recommend seeing Dusty the Musical if you can and like Dusty Springfield at all. It had a good storyline and of course good music. It also covered her relationship with Reno tastefully rather than sensationally - which I like to see when a love story is shown. It wasn't that really but in the musical some of her motivation was Reno - who was played by Demi Hines and has an excellent voice. Must admit I wondered if her Mum went to see it with her workmates. (Marcia Hines is one of the judges on Australian Idol) I'm now back in Port Pirie. The heat is unbelievable. Hopefully I get used to it again soon. It's averaging about 42 right now for the last couple of weeks - 38 degrees is a hundred. I grew up in Whyalla, which is only 170 kms away and on the desert too so fingers crossed it won't take too long. Anyway, made it back about a quarter past ten tonight to try and avoid the heat. I'm gonna sleep in the lounge room tonight with the AC on. Monday I start work and need to sleep. Changing the subject completely - my all time favourite cartoon as child was Kimba the White Lion - and tonight I found the original theme song I used to hear -better in my opinion than the later version. JB's is selling the complete series in a boxed set along with the original Astro Boy series (and the 80s version and the latest too) plus a special boxed set of Buffy with all the seasons. I shall be saving quite a bit to get those and probably the first season of Farscape too. And maybe Smallville. Hey, not much is on the local TV and it will be about my birthday by the time I have enough saved anyway. Well, that's it for now. There will be more on my first day of work later this week. I love Matt!!
He's my best friend and chosen brother and he made me come over here to Melbourne to stay for a week. So I've had a lovely break seeing the city I was born in, shopping and just having fun! Like going to Luna Park today and riding on the roller coaster. Or yesterday, Matt took me to Commercial Road, Australia's best shopping district and a place to watch all the couples, gay, lesbian, whatever, be couply. And he took me to this great bookshop in which I was able to get a couple of Mercedes Lackey novels I've been after for a while. Andhe bought this really good book I grabbed off him and nearly finished called It Had To Be You by Timothy James Beck. And we've watched alot of his DVDs, so I now have some excellent motivation to get my own collection started. Plus the chance to go shopping and get pretty! instead of practical! clothes. We're going to go see Dusty! the Musical on Tuesday, about Dusty Springfield, and I am just having a wonderful time. Tomorrow I'm gonna go see Narnia and buy Matt a chopping board, as his wooden one cracked so he tossed it. He lives in Maribynong, which is 1 minutes walk from Highpoint (largest shopping centre in Australia I think) and as close to public transport to the city, which is only 20 minutes away. He rents this gorgeous townhouse - a wonderful location! I am really enjoying this as the 23 I go back to work and training - the school holidays are when us teachers usually get more T& D done as we are supposed to do a certain amount in the year or work the last week before Xmas. Dang I'm hyper! Goood night all. Hope your next holiday is as good as mine is right now. Xandria Current Mood: hyperCurrent Music: Moulin Rouge Soundtrack | | Monday, January 2nd, 2006 | | 2:40 pm |
Yawn
About three hours to go before the movers come. Ihad about four hours sleep to get everything packed. I'm having a break now before putting the address on all the boxes. The house is a disgusting mess. I'm looking forward to everything being moved out so I can clean it. But I have a couple days before the inspection - time to do it properly. Hopefully there will be someone from church to pick up the keys from the estate agent in Pirie tomorrow so the furniture can go in. I'm gonna owe a big favour to whoever and I haven't even met them yet. :Sigh: Another cockroach appeared, but a diffent breed. I'm still in hopeful denial as the boxes were in the garage which has the cockroaches unfortunately, regardless of the amount of insect bombs put in there. So today I cleaned the fridge, the freezer, two loads of laundry, packed more boxes and took the legs off the bed. Yesterday I worked hard, but pretty much worked through the night - I went to bed at 6.30 and got up about 10.30. May be a while before I update this again. I have a cockroach free house! The one from last night flew in. All it means is today I went around with the insect spray instead of later. I pulled all these boxes out of the garage I need to take and sprayed them too. It's a sunny day so they are in the driveway to let any bugs escape before bringing them in house. One's a wooden crate I always use for the breakables and one is the original one with packing for the stereo. The others just weren't unpacked and I don't have time to sort them - and I don't wish to move any creepy crawlys in them to the new place. While in Adelaide I went to Grace Removals to buy packing boxes - lots of the ones I used before were unusable. And the local supermarket's only boxes are banana boxes - good for frozen or refrigerated stuff but not pots, tupperware or linen. So I'm taking a break right now - I'm in the middle of cooking what is left in the freezer - most of it has gone to the parents to fill theirs at Christmas I never realised I'd bought so much chicken though - seven packs! I'm expecting the freezer to start clucking as Mum had a few in there already. While in Adelaide I saw a few movies - Mrs Henderson Presents, The Legend of Zorro and the latest Harry Potter. All three very enjoyable. I highly reccomend seeing Mrs Henderson Presents. it's based on the true story behind the Windmill theatre in London. I laughed and I cried. Dame Judy Dench and Bob Hoskins star in it. I saw the Zorro movie with my Mum, and it was a nice piece of escapism. The Harry Potter was good too but with all the subplots cut out that set things out for the next books or movies what are they going to do? After the movie Ryk and I had a coffee and discussed who they might use in the next movie. Namely, the character of Dolores Umbridge - Ryk thought Magda Szubanski (In Babe and Babe 2, an excellent Australian Comedienne and character actress) I argued that most of the films they have kept to the English cast and suggested maybe Dawn French. Guess we'll see soon enough. I must admit, I'm half expecting either Hugh Grant and or Rowan Atkinson to turn up in one of the Harry Potter movies and maybe Judy Dench as a possible Madam Bones on the Wisengamot. Any arguments for or against this I'm happy to discuss - any links too if there are ny rumours about cast members now. Well, time to pack more boxes. Alive!!!
Lots of crap has happened to me over the last couple of months. Alot of it related to work and reaching certain goals my boss wanted. it was very stressful, and involved alot of hard work, ten and eleven hour days plus at laest one day on the weekend. I had no energy left for anything else, including eating. So my immune system is currently down and I am on a stronger blood pressure medication. However, the 12 month contract is not being renewed and I am being transferred YaY!!! I have spent a week in Adelaide with the family - it was good to catch up. And I caught up with a few friends as well. Next week I move to Port Pirie and after that I go to Melbourne to visit my dearest friend for a week. Matt is gorgeous, has a good job and wants to take me to the factory outlets to "get you a whole new wardrobe". Then we are going clubbing, and while Matt mainly knows the gay clubs I'm fine with that. I'm more interested in having some fun and maybe flirting more than anything else. My new position in Port Pirie is a 100% library position at the school there. I'm looking forward to a fresh new start. Anyway, Happy New Year to you all. The furniture is being picked up Monday and I am only half packed. I have a lot of work to do. Including poisoning as I saw a cockroach just now - not sure if it was in the boxes I bought from the removalists, came in the window or was in by other means while I was away for a week. They are filthy and carry disease - icky! Good night all. Xandria xandria1969's LJ New Year Party (Now At Least 15% Politically Correct!)

Soul Searching
I've been getting my thoughts in order and writing them down for the counsellor I have been told by the boss I have to see. Everyone says he is very good, which is a relief. But it is not my choice to see him. I have problems, I tell my friends or family, write a story, I pray, and I feel better for it. Today I am doing a lot of deep thinking about my future, I admit that. ( Read more... )I love being on Kangaroo Island, I like the atmosphere, the way of life, and the community. In the holidays I was intending to apply for school choice here to stay. Now she has said what she said I need to do some serious soul searching - apply for a position where the boss thinks I am a liar and is not independent enough as a teacher? (She told me she thinks I will sink rather than swim). Or, because I have a contract with DECs anyway, let them transfer me? Get the references from my Prac teachers who were impressed with me and from the librarian of Reynella East Primary as well? I now have to think what would be a better career move - a fresh start where I can work harder and hopefully impress this boss, or to try really hard of the next three months and hope for the best?
